Frits Prinzen

Frits W. Prinzen is Professor of Physiology at Maastricht University. Within the Cardiovascular Research Institute Maastricht he is the leader of the research line "Electromechanics of the Heart". In his group physiologists collaborate with cardiologists and biomedical engineers. Main topics of his research are the electrophysiology and mechanics of the heart during abnormal impulse conduction, as caused by ventricular pacing and left/right bundle branch block as well as the effect of cardiac resynchronization therapy. His research consists of animal experiments, computer simulation and clinical research. He is convinced that this unique combination is important to push the field of heart failure and pacemaker therapies forward, both in discovering new mechanisms and new tools.
It is also because of this consideration that he is glad to be a scientific partner of the CCMC.
