Research Profile

Enrico G. Caiani is Associate professor at the Electronics, Information and Bioengineering Dpt., Politecnico di Milano, Italy, where he teaches the class of Biomedical Image Processing Laboratory. He graduated in 1996 in Electronic Engineering at Politecnico di Milano, where he received in 2000 a PhD in Biomedical Engineering. He is author of 3 book chapters and >60 peer-reviewed papers in ISI international journals (total impact factor: 171, ISI H-index=17, total citations >1200). In 2002, he received the Rosanna Degani Young Investigator Award (Computers in Cardiology Society) and in 2007 the Arthur E. Weyman Young Investigator Finalist Award (American Society of Echocardiography). Currently, he serves as vice-Chairperson for the e-Cardiology Working Group of the European Society of Cardiology. Main topics of his research include the development of image processing techniques for segmentation of cardiac structures from different imaging modalities (echo 3D, MRI, CT) for patient-specific modelling, multimodality and intramodality image fusion, and the evaluation of human physiology under different gravitational stimulations (parabolic flight, bed rest, orbital research.

Since 2011, he has been collaborating with the teams now in the CCMC for the generation of patient-specific anatomical models of the heart.
