PhD Student
Center for Computational Medicine in Cardiology

Research Profile

Uyên Châu Nguyên is a PhD-candidate at the Cardiovascular Research Institute Maastricht (CARIM) in the Netherlands in close collaboration with the Center for Computational Medicine in Cardiology (CCMC) in Lugano. Her PhD trajectory is supervised by prof. Frits W. Prinzen, prof. Angelo Aurrichio, and dr. Kevin Vernooy.

Uyên first came to Lugano as a research student in the summer of 2013 to build patient-specific geometries for computer models of the heart and stayed involved with the institute ever since.

She graduated in the summer of 2016 as a Medical Doctor and Clinical Investigator from Maastricht University and with a masters’ in Medical Imaging and Intervention (Clinical Technology) from the University of Twente (both in the Netherlands). Her research is mainly clinically oriented and comprises electro-anatomic mapping, image integration, electrocardiography, and ECG imaging in heart failure patients. To further understand her observations in clinical data from a mechanistic point of view she frequently collaborates with computer modelers from CCMC.
